Achour & Partners was a partner in a concert in honour of Josef Suk, which was sponsored by the municipality of Prague 1. The legendary violinist Josef Suk, who is both the great-grandson of Antonín Dvořák and the grandson of composer Josef Suk, is one of the most significant figures in 20th century music. His style of performing and especially interpreting the Czech masters has influenced several generations of musicians and even today his recordings remain highly regarded. This concert to honour Josef Suk was an offering from artists grateful for the chance to perform with this brilliant artist.
The programme featured the excellent artistic ensemble Adamus Ensemble. The founder of this group is Jan Adamus, a leading Czech oboist and conductor. He draws on many years of experience and co-operation with top local and foreign artists. He is especially noted for his collaboration with Josef Suk in a reinterpretation of Bach and Vivaldi’s double concerto for violin and oboe performed at the Prague Spring international festival. Their work together culminated in a recording of the Baroque violin and oboe concertos for Supraphon. The string section of the ensemble has benefited from its proximity to the personality of Josef Suk and his interpretative mastery derived from the family tradition – the violinist’s grandfather, composer Josef Suk was after all a pupil as well as the son-in-law of Antonín Dvořák. Given the magic of personal contact with Josef Suk during this collaboration and the tonal sophistication, which is the emblem of this world-renowned master, it is thought that musicians associated with this ensemble are next in line to Suk’s stirring musicality.
